
Taiwanese legendary singer: Teresa Teng
Which songs can bring strength for thousands of hundred people and have been popular for decades? Teresa Teng, whose Chinese name is Li-Jun Teng, has been regarded as one of the best singers among Asian countries. She emerged from Taiwan television at 14 and died from an asthma attack at the age of 42.
During her singing career, the songbird devoted much time to her country. Her sweet smile and melodious voice comforted Taiwanese troops and earned her the nickname “soldiers’ sweetheart”. In 1989, Teng performed in Paris during the Tiananmen student uprising, singing for those students and proclaiming her support for democracy.
Her famous songs include “When will you be back”, “Your sweet smile”, and ”Small town story”…etc. Over 40 years, her voice remains a vivid memory. One of her American fans, David Malkus, says: ”She lives on in my ears and in my heart.”
