Mr Alun Jones, President of the valleys and Cwmcommon region of the Welsh Farmers’ Union (WFU), delivered a speech on farming in Wales, to the Cwmcommon branch of the WFU in South Cwm last Thursday.
He said that South Cwm in the farming industry has being in the thick of the battle for its survival, and for the future of rural areas in Wales.
Mr Alun Jones suggested that South Cwm must fight alone on some fronts. Management skills and marketing judgments have been South Cwm alone to bring to the conduct of business.
He also encouraged the people in South Cwm to grasp their opportunities and accept the risks inseparable from the business of farming.
He remarked that it has been equally important to recognise that decisions of governments have a major impact on farm incomes, and hence on their ability to invest and to provide employment directly and indirectly as well.
The president of the valley and Cwmcommon Region of the WFU added, the Welsh Farmers’ Union has been entitled to ask government’s commitment to the effective implementation of possible measures.
