“Europe has been trying to integrate its minorities into the mainstream for decades” says an article of Time this week.
In this article, the author, Jumana Farouky, provides five ways to help Europe “turn its multicultural reality into something that enriches the Continent.” He suggests European countries should accept Muslims as their families. Also, the best way to keep the peace in such a cultural diverse area is to start with the kids.
I agree these two ideas. Racial discrimination has existed in this world for a long time. We people should make an effort to treat everyone equally whether in Europe or other areas. However, it is undeniable that racism has been a serious problem even in the 21st century.
Immigrations who have different culture, religions and language from local people, often find it difficult to integrate into their society. In some countries, ethnic minorities suffer unfair treatments from their employers and lower salary than the majority. Well, it stones me. How can we judge people on the colour of their skin alone? For me, people’s appearance only consists of skin, the flesh and bones. Anti-discrimination is not a slogan, but an effort.
Many people are scared of Muslim women, for example, because they cannot be seen behind their veils, which is mysterious or unfamiliar with. It seems ridiculous, but truly this idea is their source of fear. However, my idea is, equally recognizing all religions - includes Islam, protects the role of faith in shaping a person’s identity. It is about respecting difference.
