The way to the Taiwanese president in 2008

Taiwan will hold its 2008 presidential election in few months.

Democratic Progressive Party (DDP) Chairman Yu Shyi-kun announced his intention to enter the party’s primary, for the 2008 presidential race, which will take place on 5 March,

He said, “The year 2008 will determine whether Taiwan takes a step forward or backward.”

In addition, Frank Hsieh, the former Premier, has announced his candidacy a few days ago. Annette Lu,Vice President and Premier Su Tseng-chang are also expected to register for the DDP’s presidential primary.

Otherwise, former Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) chairman, Ma Ying-jeou, has declared he would seek the KMT nomination for the 2008 election, which would be launched on 15 April. He is recovering from allegedly siphoning funds from his “Special allowance” fund when he was mayor of Taipei.
